On February 24, 2017 the owner discovered the cat had developed symptoms. On February 25, 2017 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The owner stated the cat was still having fasciculations on February 25th, but the ataxia was more mild. The APSS veterinarian stated that permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid and that it has a wide margin of safety in most species, but has been known to cause tremors/seizures in cats. The APSS veterinarian stated that other clinical effects include depression, ataxia, drooling, anorexia, and vomiting. The APSS veterinarian recommended the owner take the cat to a veterinarian (where they could bathe the cat and give medications) and to have the veterinarian call for more information.
