Shortly after the product was applied on September 11, 2017, the cat developed symptoms. The owner then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). During the call, the owner bathed the cat with dish washing liquid (DWL). The APSS veterinarian stated that products labeled for cats generally have low concentrations of pyrethroids and that if the product is groomed off and ingested, a taste reaction may be seen. The APSS veterinarian also stated that many sprays contain significant percentage of isopropyl alcohol and with overuse alcohol toxicity may develop. The APSS assistant recommended the owner monitor at home, give a small meal (feed regular small meals at least once an hour), provide thermoregulation (wrap in warm towels (warm them in the dryer)), take the animal to a veterinarian (if signs worsen), have the veterinarian call for information, and to call back with questions.

Later in the evening on September 11, 2017, the owner called the APSS to discuss the case. The owner stated they have been monitoring at home and gave some tuna but signs still continue. The APSS assistant recommended the owner take the cat to the veterinarian if signs continue beyond 3-4 hours. A few hours later on September 11, 2017 the owner took the cat to the veterinarian. On September 13, 2017 an APSS assistant called the owner for a follow up. The owner stated that cat was still symptomatic when taken to the veterinarian and that early in the morning on September 12, 2017 the regular veterinarian provided fluid therapy and did a chemistry profile. The owner stated that the cat is now back to normal.
