Accidental ingestion/Ingestion accident.
(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On June 13, 2017 the owner induced emesis (with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) after finding that the dog had ingested this bait. Soon after, the dog developed dyspnea and bloody diarrhea, so the owner then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service. Shortly after calling, the owner disconnected the call to take the dog to a veterinarian. The APSS veterinarian called the owner back as he was taking the dog to the veterinarian and advised the owner to call back once he arrived at the clinic. The APSS veterinarian stated that methomyl is a carbamate that is rapidly absorbed after ingestion, does not accumulate in the tissues and that it does not "age" on the receptors like organophosphates (OP's) do, so signs are often short-lived. The APSS and veterinarian further stated that signs occur within minutes after ingestion, and may include salivation, lacrimation, urination, diarrhea, dyspnea, and emesis, bradycardia, ataxia, weakness, tremors, seizures, and possibly death. Finally, the APSS veterinarian stated that if not a lethal exposure, signs are expected to resolve spontaneously due to the reversible nature of carbamate toxicity.
Mort
The owner called back to report that the dog had died, declined further consult and also declined speaking with an APSS veterinarian. A necropsy was not available as the product was not used per label directions. This product is not meant to be used where animals could have access to it.
