(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On September 2, 2015 the owner found the cat dead; noticed the cat had developed alopecia and skin ulcercation. The owner then took the cat to the veterinarian, where he was cremated. On September 4, 2015 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated S-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR). The APSS veterinarian also stated primary concerns from topical administration are for mild dermal irritation and redness, usually from the carriers. The APSS veterinarian additionally stated etofenprox is in the pyrethroid family, and is safe to use on cats and dogs as a topical agent to treat fleas and it does not result in tremors or seizure activity that can be seen from other pyrethroids, since it is structurally different. The APSS veterinarian also stated dermal exposures may cause mild dermal irritation, redness, pruritus, and paresthesia at the application site within the first 24-48 hours and secondary alopecia may occur from scratching or biting at the treated areas. The APSS veterinarian finally stated death would not be expected to occur and had the body not been cremated prior to call, a necropsy would have helped to determine the cause of death. The APSS veterinarian recommended calling back with questions.
Mort
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation. A follow up was not performed, because a necropsy was not available.
