On October 12, 2015 the owner's girlfriend found the dog playing with the block in his mouth. On October 14, 2015 the dog developed anorexia, started vomiting, and later that evening developed lethargy. On October 15, 2015 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated bromethalin is a neurotoxic rodenticide and signs include hind limb weakness, paralysis, and seizures. The APSS assistant recommended taking the dog to the veterinarian, having the veterairnian call for information, and calling back with questions.

The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have an low likelihood of causing the clinical situation. On October 18, 2015 an APSS technician called the owner to follow-up. The owner stated he took the dog to the veterinarian where no treatment was done for him. On October 15, 2015 the dog died at home. A necropsy was not available.
