On July 9, 2014 the dog was let out into the yard that had been sprayed with the product earlier that day. On July 10, 2014 the dog was again let out into the yard and the owner saw the dog eating grass. Later on July 10, 2014 the dog had an episode of vomiting. On July 12, 2014, the dog was found dead outside in a kennel. On July 13, 2014 a necropsy was performed. The owner stated she was told the dog died from heat stroke and the necropsy showed a warm heart and a toxic substance in the pet's tissues. On July 14, 2014 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated ingestion of the wet product could result in mild gastrointestinal (GI) upset and taste reaction, and paresthesia would be possible with a dermal exposure. The APSS veterinarian also stated the vomiting could be related to the ingestion of the treated grass, but death is not related to the ingestion. The APSS veterinarian recommended obtaining additional information (owner will call back when she receives the necropsy report), and to call back with questions.
