(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
On October 27, 2014 the cat became symptomatic so was taken to the veterinary clinic where they bathed him using liquid dish washing detergent (LDWD). The attending veterinarian then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated there is risk for life threatening signs anytime a dog product containing permethrins is applied to a cat as cats are very sensitive to this chemical. The APSS veterinarian also stated there is risk for gastrointestinal (GI) upset, lethargy, ataxia, depression, anorexia, tremors, seizures, and death. The APSS veterinarian finally stated with this being a small amount applied and then it was washed off in a short amount of time the risk for signs should be low. The APSS veterinarian recommended monitoring the cat at the veterinary facility for GI and central nervous system (CNS) signs, giving fluid therapy, monitoring body temperature, and giving methocarbamol (50-220 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) intravenously (IV) slow for tremors or seizures).
Modérée
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a low likelihood of causing the clinical situation. Multiple attempts to update the case were unsuccessful; therefore, the outcome is unknown. Off label use: dog product not labelled for use on cats.
