On October 25, 2014 the cat developed symptoms. A few hours later the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated especially if sprayed heavily and/or if breaks in skin, isopropanol can be absorbed across skin and result in intoxication, may see hypoglycemia as well. The APSS veterinarian also stated isopropanol is 2-4 times as intoxicating as ethanol. The APSS technician recommended monitoring the cat at home (for current signs, if they do not improve within a few hours of the bath or if they worsen at any time, take to vet.), bathing the cat (with mild dish soap and lukewarm water, Towel dry and keep warm), and calling back with questions. The APSS technician also recommended taking the cat to the veterinarian (if current signs do not improve within a few hours of the bath or if they worsen at any time, take to vet) and having the veterinarian call for information.

Later on October 25, 2014 the owner contacted the APSS back to state the cat's signs are not resolving. The APSS veterinarian recommended taking the cat to the veterinarian for assessment and supportive care, as she may be hypoglycemic. The owner called the APSS back shortly after, stating he really could not afford veterinary care at this point, so the APSS veterinarian recommended keeping the cat warm and to consider offering the cat small, but frequent meals.
