Between August 22, 2014 and August 28, 2014 the owner noticed the cat was symptomatic. On August 30, 2014 the owner kenneled the cat while moving and on September 2, 2014 the owner took the cat to be groomed. While at the groomer, they said that she was dehydrated and the bath water was red from all of the fleas that she had. While at the groomer's, the cat had a seizure and died. The owner then contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated s-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR). The APSS veterinarian stated that it does not kill adult fleas, but interrupts the reproductive cycle by making the eggs non-viable. The APSS veterinarian further stated this product would not directly or indirectly cause seizures or death in a cat and she would suspect that the cat had underlying problems, or was anemic from the flea infestation and the stress from the bath caused a thrombotic event. The APSS veterinarian recommended a necropsy, but the owner was not interested in a necropsy.
