1-37950570 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her dog was exposed to an insecticidal dog shampoo containing the active ingredient phenothrin. The reporter bathed her 4-year-old, male mixed breed dog with the product, to treat an active flea infestation, four days prior to initial contact with the company. While bathing the dog the reporter noticed that his skin and fur turned black. After the bath the dog was lethargic, anorexic and then refused to get up. The reporter found the dog deceased one day after the bath had been given. The described symptoms are not consistent with exposure to the product. Based on the description of black skin and black fur during bathing the dog likely had a severe flea infestation and the dogs symptoms may be consistent with flea anemia. No further information is available.
