1-34455982 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her cat was exposed to a spot-on insecticide containing the active ingredient methoprene. The reporter indicated that she had applied the product to her female, 1-year-old cat for the past two to three months prior to initial contact with the registrant but symptoms from the exposure were not seen until just before the initial call. At the time of the initial call, the reporter indicated that her cat had red and swollen ears, open sores on the neck and a loss of appetite. The reporter was advised that the product has a wide margin of safety but some animals can be sensitive to the product. It was recommended that she discontinue using the product, that she bath her cat with a hand dishwashing soap and that she take her cat to the veterinarian for symptomatic and supportive care. On follow-up call, four days later, the reporter indicated that she wiped the cat with a wash cloth and some soap and covered the cat with a sock to prevent scratching. Per the reporter at the time of the follow-up call the cat was doing better. The reporter did not take her cat to the veterinarian due to financial constraints. No further information is available.
