There were a total of 25 colonies in the bee yard. There were 25 affected colonies.There were >2000 dead bees per colony observed outside of hive.Honey off week before (Thurs/Fri). Very aggressive. Adult bee symptoms included aggressive, shaking/trembling/twitching, vomit/regurgitation, crawling, disoriented. Additionally, forward wings. No brood symptoms. No brood in the hives. No queen symptoms observed. Strong yard. Sample of vegetation taken, corn tassel, Pride A572568 had positive detects for clothianidin. Sample of vegetation taken, corn tassel, DKC40-22 field adjacent to bee yard had positive detects for clothianidin. Sample of vegetation taken from corn tassel, (organic) field adjacent to bee yard had positive detects for clothianidin and pyraclostrobin. Sample of vegetation taken from corn tassel, NE corner Farm had positive detects for picoxystrobin. Sample of vegetation taken from corn tassel, PS A5110G3 had positive detects for clothianidin and picoxystrobin. Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive had positive detects for pyraclostrobin and thiabendazole.Samples of honey taken from affected hive, pollen comb had no detected active ingredients. Samples of pollen taken from affected hive, pollen comb had no detected active ingredients. Sample of live bees taken from unaffected hive, strong hive had positive detects for thiabendazole. Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive had positive detects for pyraclostrobin and thiabendazole. Samples of pollen comb taken from affected hive had no detected active ingredients. Samples of water, water from stagnant part of river had no detected active ingredients.The weather at the time of the incident was sunny, dry, cool. Prior to the incident, the average number of frames of bees had a very strong yard.Bees didn't have enough strength to carry. After the incident, there were an average frames of bees were very docile. Additional food sources provided to the bees included sugar syrup and pollen supplement (patties). In 2012, the following treatments were applied to the hives: formic acid, fluvalinate-tau. Information on crops located near the beeyards: organic corn was 100 ac from the beeyard. The crop located near the affected bee yard was soybean. Corn is south east to this yard, it is organic. Hay farm is located in front of hive and forest is behind Bkeeper noted that along with one yard, hives at another Yard were also affected. Questionnaire: this yard was hardest hit yard reported by this BK in August. Each hive has about 500-1000 dead bees in front of it. The dead bees are being scavenged by skunks, yellow jackets and birds. Yard has 25 hives, each 3 boxes tall. There is no brood in the hives that were inspected. Some hives still have queens. South of beeyards looks to be cereal that were already harvested and underseeded with forages.
