There were a total of 24 colonies in the bee yard. There were 20 affected colonies.There were between 0 and 500 dead bees per colony (14 hives) and between 501 and 1000 dead bees per colony (10 hives), the dead bees were observed inside and outside of hive. Bees were actively foraging at the time of the incident. Dead bees had pollen on their legs. Bees were not foraging while the questionnaire was being field in as it was too cold and wet to forage.Adult bee symptoms included shaking/trembling/twitching. No brood symptoms observed.No queen symptoms observed. Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive had positive detects for clothianidin. The weather at the time of the incident was sunny, dry, calm, 18 C. Prior to the incident, there were an average of 7 to 8 frames of bees, 5 frames of brood, and 6 to 7 frames of honey , and 2 frames of pollen. It was too soon after the incident to determine average frames of bees. Additional food sources provided to the bees included sugar syrup. Bee keeper reports about 20 of the 24 hives are affected and 12 have failed. He suspects it is stored 2012 pollen and believes there is neonics in the pollen. He is also observing dead, dying bees (approximately 35 per colony) in the surviving colonies since crop planting due to corn dust. There were no flying bees even though the weather and forage was suitable for foraging. 50% of the bees in the colonies were gone, bees were clustered on the brood on a warm day, appeared to be young bees left. The yard was silent, no birds singing in the forest, the bee keeper was very concerned for the health of the yard. The bee keeper had never dealt with any bee loss or damage like this. The colony appeared to be dwindling and dwindling. Bee samples were collected for analysis. Initial call (May 10): noticed on May 9. corn planted (several fields) as recent as May 9.
