On August 11, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat had pruritus, itching at the cheek that she was rubbing on a wicker chair. At that time, the owner also noticed that the cat had isolated episodes of rubbing her face against a chair that had been sprayed with the product and experiencing a behavior change. Later that evening, the owner observed that the cat also had an isolated episode of feet licking. On August 14, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat had a trichobezoar; this was an isolated event. On August 15, 2012 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that if the cat had walked on a still-wet surface, that might lead to a paresthesia type reaction; it was also possible that the cat was responding to the residual odor of the product. The APSS assistant recommended that the owner monitor the cat at home, wash the cat's feet with liquid dish washing detergent (LDWD), wash the cat's face by rinsing the affected area, apply vitamin E to the affected area on the face, take the cat to the veterinarian, have the veterinarian call for information, and call back with questions.
