On May 24, 2012 the owner noticed that the cat was having tremors and had edema of the face. Later that morning, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that tremors, seizures, and death could occur in cats exposed to concentrated permethrin. The APSS veterinarian recommended that the owner bathe the cat with liquid dish washing detergent (LDWD) and then dry off the cat and keep her warm, take the cat to the veterinarian, and have the veterinarian call for information.

On May 30, 2012 an APSS assistant called the owner to update the case and spoke to her house sitter, who said that the cat had developed seizures and had been euthanized on an unknown date. On June 1, 2012 an APSS assistant called the owner to update the case. The owner stated that later on the morning of May 24, 2012 the cat had seizures and was euthanized by her veterinarian later that morning. A necropsy was not available.
