1-31145374 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that his two cats were exposed to a spot-on insecticidal product containing the active ingredient methoprene and on the same day his dog was exposed to a spot-on insecticidal product containing the active ingredient permethrin. The pet owner reported that the spot-on product was applied to his 2-year-old, 13 pound, male mixed breed cat (Subform III #1) and to his 2-year-old, 10 pound, male mixed breed cat on the morning of the day of initial contact with the registrant. At the same time, the reporter also applied a spot-on product to his dog. The reporter indicated that he left for the day and when he came home he found his 13 pound cat dead. The reported indicated that after he applied the spot-on products to his animals he separated the cats from the dog so the cats were not exposed to the dog product. The reporters 10 pound cat and dog were asymptomatic at the time of the call. The caller was advised that methoprene has little to no toxicity to mammals and reactions to the product would not be expected. When a cat is exposed to a dog product toxicity can result. The reporter was offered a necropsy to help determine the cause of death but it was declined. No further information is available.
