1-31104745 - The reporter, a pet owner, indicated that her cat was exposed to an insecticidal product containing the active ingredient methoprene. The pet owner reported that the product was applied to her 13-year-old, male, domestic shorthaired cat one day prior to initial contact with the registrant. On the day of initial contact the reporter indicated that her cat was having seizures, was ataxic, was shivering and felt cold. The pet owner also indicated that there is hair loss and the skin is irritated at the application site. The pet owner was advised that the active ingredient had little to no toxicity in mammals and the described symptoms are inconsistent with product exposure. The pet owner was queried about possible exposure to other products and she indicated that on the same day she applied the spot-on to her cat she had also applied a spot-on product to her dog with the active ingredient permethrin but the cat and dog were separated after application and did not inadvertently apply the dog product to the cat. The reporter was advised to bath her animal and to seek veterinary care for her cats neurologic symptoms. On follow-up, four days later, the reporter indicated that she had bathed her cat and his symptoms resolved within 24 hours without medical care. No further information is available.
