(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
1-29449231- The reporter, a pet owner, indicates her animals were exposed to an insecticidal product containing the active ingredient methoprene. The pet owner reports her fifteen year old female twelve year cat (Subform, III#1), and her three year ten pound cat (Subform III, #2) had the product applied three days prior to her initial contact. She reported also she applied an unspecified topical flea and tick preparation to her five year twelve pound dog (Subform III, #3) and her two year twenty six pound dog (Subform III, #4) the same day as the application to the cats. She reported the older cat developed dermal irritation with one hour of the application and tremor, lethargy, seizure within one day of the application. The younger cat developed tremor and hiding behaviors within one day of application. Both dogs developed dermal irritation immediately. The pet owner was advised to bathe the animals in a noninsecticidal shampoo and seek veterinary care. The pet owner was reached for follow up one day later. The pets had recovered. The cats were taken to the veterinarian where intravenous fluids were given and muscle relaxers. The pet owner was unable to identify the canine product used but was able to state it contained permethrin and that the dogs and cats were social. The cats signs were likely due to transfer of a concentrated pyrethroid labeled for canine use through social behavior. The methoprene only product would not be expected to elicit the signs seen. No further information is available.
