On March 14, 2012 the dog accidentally ingested some of the bait product that was located on a table near his food dish. Later that evening, the owner noticed that the dog was vomiting, and that the vomit smelled similar to the bait product. At that time, the owner also noticed that the dog was drooling and was too weak to walk or stand on his own. Later that evening, the owner took the dog to the veterinarian, where the dog had a seizure. While at the clinic, the dog was given activated charcoal and Furosemide and a complete blood count (CBC) and a chemistry profile were performed. The owner's veterinarian diagnosed the dog with azotemia based on the test results. On the morning of March 15, 2012 the dog died. Later that day, the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS) to obtain help. The APSS veterinarian stated that methomyl is highly toxic and that signs, along with seizures and tremors, were expected.
