1 29615579 The reporter, a veterinarian, indicated a patient of his had been exposed to an herbicidal product containing the active ingredients MCPA, triclopyr, and dicamba. The reporter indicated the pet owner of a two year twenty pound male miniature schnauzer dog had presented with the primary complaint of seizure, drooling, vomiting, twitching, and the animal had a temperature of 106. The pet owner had told the veterinarian the product was applied to his residential lawn the night prior, allowed to dry and the animal was allowed into the application area where it had played on the grass with a bone. The signs had developed 30 45 minutes after contact with the application area. The veterinarian stated he had been treating the animal for the past 12 hours with intravenous fluids and sedation. The veterinarian was advised the severity of signs seen would not be anticipated following contact with the application area as described. The veterinarian was advised of appropriate supportive measures but to investigate other diagnosis. On follow up three days later the veterinarian indicated the animal was semi-conscious and no longer having seizures. Treatment with intravenous fluids and sedation had been discontinued the day of follow up. The veterinarian described force feeding but subsequent vomiting. On follow up two days later the veterinarian reported the animal had continued to improve since his last report but then he had found the animal dead in his cage when he returned to his clinic that morning. The reporter indicated no intention to do a necropsy. No further information is available. The severity of SXS and outcome seen are inconsistent with the toxicity profile of the active ingredient, finished product, or the exposure described.
