1-23687381- The reporter, a pet owner, indicates exposure of her animal to an insecticide containing the active ingredient phenothrin. The caller indicates she was caring for a stray cat she believed to be between 3 and 6 months of age. The animal had been bathed with the product, a flea and tick shampoo labeled only for use in dogs, earlier the same day of the initial contact with the registrant. The caller had been away from home for some time after application and the animal was left out doors. The caller came home to find the animal dead in her drive way with evidence of bleeding from its head. The caller was advised when used appropriately according to the label no harm would be expected. The caller was advised cats are more sensitive to pyrethroid products well tolerated by dogs. The caller was advised of the signs seen in cases of feline exposure to similar dog products and onset. The caller was advised despite misuse of the product the sign seen and outcome were inconsistent with the profile of the active ingredient. The animal may have been the victim of trauma or some undiagnosed underlying condition. No further information is available.
