1-23475110- The reporter, a pet owner, indicates her animals were exposed to and insecticide containing the active ingredient methoprene. The pet owner indicates she applied the product to seven cats the day prior to the initial contact with the registrant. The first animal, a one year female five pound cat (Subform III, #1) developed excessive salivation and seizures within 3-4 hours of application. The owner washed the animal but did not bring it to the veterinarian. The animal was reported to have died in the night. The pet owner indicates two additional animals, five month two pound domestic shorthair cats (Subform III, #2), were found outdoors the day of the initial contact with the registrant seizing. The owner reports she is unsure about the onset of the sign. The remainder of the animals have developed no signs. The pet owner was told the active ingredient in the product, methoprene, is present in very low concentration and would not be precipitate the signs seen. Despite the inconsistency of the signs seen with exposure, the pet owner was advised to wash the animals with a non insecticidal shampoo and seek prompt veterinary care for the animals that are ill. The pet owner was informed of a registrant supported necropsy program. On routine call back the pet owner reported the ill animals were brought to the veterinarian and remain there. She did not specify treatments provided but indicated one of the animals was still "walking funny". According to pet owner the veterinarian implicated the product in the animal's illness. It is unclear how that determination was made. No further information is available.
