Signalment 4.0¿3.0 yr 40 female weighing 150.0 lb. Was in good health previously. Normal environment: outdoors mostly. Patient Note [Note : About 1 week ago, 5 goats died from unexplainable causes. All animals were apparently normal up to the point of dying suddenly. No necropsies or bloodwork was performed on the deceased goats. Goats are adult, have weaned their kids, in good health. No feed or water changes have occurred recently. Climate has been hot and dry. (by JD on Jun 23, 2010 at 08:54 PM; amended by MK on Jun 23, 2010 at 09:14 PM)] Agent Exposure Roundup Weed And Grass Killer Ready To Use Plus Pump N Go Sprayer (observed agent id) Suspected exposure occurred on May 16, 2010 at 09:00 PM CDT¿1 wk (observed ). Exposure involved unknown amount orally. The exposure was accidental, and occurred at animal owner field/pasture. The agent was obtained from Other Retailer. The lot number was did not ask. The expiration date was null. [Note : About a month and a half ago, the owner sprayed Round-Up on the grass along the edges of his goat enclosure. He knows that his goats ate some of the grass which had the Round-up sprayed on it, but he can't be sure which goats or how much they ingested. Goats began dying about middle of last week, one a day, through this past Sunday 6/20, no more deaths have occurred since 6/20. If signs develop, there is low risk that those signs will be life-threatening. [Note : Roundup is a relatively very safe weed killer around grazing animals; on occasion a dying toxic weed may be consumed by a grazing animal and result in toxic effect from the noxious weed, but would expect signs to develop within hours of this sort of exposure. Because it has been 6 weeks from the application to when the first goat died, Roundup would not be expected to be the cause for the deaths noted. (by MK on Jun 23, 2010 at 09:14 PM)] Potential Cause Roundup Weed And Grass Killer Ready To Use Plus Pump N Go Sprayer Because the time course was not consistent, the amount was unknown consistent, and the findings were poorly consistent, this substance was considered to have doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation.
