2.5 mo immature male weighing 15.0 lb. Was in good health previously. Normal environment: fenced. Agent Exposure Roundup Ready To Use Extended Control Weed and Grass Killer Plus Weed Preventer (suspected agent id) Possible exposure occurred on Mar 02, 2010 at 08:00 AM CST (observed ). Exposure involved unknown amount dermally and orally. The exposure was accidental, and occurred at neighbor other. The agent was obtained from Other Retailer. The lot number was unk. The expiration date was null. [Note : Owner's neighbor sprayed his fence line with a Roundup product on either Feb 28th or March 1st. There was a heavy rain the night of March 1st/2nd. The goats ended up in the nearby drainage ditch on the morning of March 2nd, and were found by the owner covered in mud. She is concerned that some of the Roundup had been washed into the drainage ditch and the goats were exposed either dermally or orally. (by (name) on Mar 05, 2010 at 09:56 AM)] Because the amount was unknown consistent, the patient was considered to be at low risk of developing clinical signs. If signs develop, there is low risk that those signs will be life-threatening. [Note : Glyphosate has a very wide margin of safety. It inhibits a specific biochemical pathway that is unique to plants. Ingestion of the product when wet can cause some irritation to the oral mucous membranes, causing nausea and vomiting. Once the product has dried and is absorbed into the plants it is nontoxic. I only takes a few hours for the Roundup to absorb into plants, so if they had been sprayed early on March 1st, a heavy rain that not should not have washed off the active ingrediant.
