préciser Treatment with feline product, possible transfer of canine product
(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
1-21216996: A reporter (cat owner) called on 01/03/2010 to report the exposure of his cat to a flea egg and larvae product containing the active ingredient Methoprene. According to the reporter, the product was applied to the cat on 01/03/2010. A canine flea and tick product containing the active ingredients Methoprene and Permethrin was applied to the dog at the same time. Within 2 hours of product application, the cat became agitated and ataxic, and developed tremors and diarrhea. The reporter thought that the cat had been licking at the application site. It was unknown whether the canine product on the dog had somehow gotten transferred onto the cat. The reporter was advised that the feline product is not expected to result in adverse effects when used on cats, and ingestions of feline product are not expected to result in the signs described. The reporter was also advised that if the canine product had transferred to the cat somehow, adverse effects may be seen. A recommendation was made to bathe the cat in hand dish soap and transfer the cat to a veterinarian for evaluation. The reporter was advised that monitoring for 3 days is recommended. Forty-five minutes later, the reporter's veterinarian called to say that the reporter had called him. The veterinarian wanted clarification on the incident. The veterinarian was advised of what the reporter had relayed. The veterinarian was also advised that the cat should be monitored for 3 days and that methocarbamol should be used to manage the muscle tremors. Several attempts at follow up were unsuccessful. No further information was obtained. NOTE: The feline product is not labeled for use on aged cats (defined by the company as cats older than 10 years of age).
