1-20331032: A reporter (dog owner) called on 10/07/2009 to report the possible exposure of her dog to an insecticide containing the active ingredient Permethrin. According to the reporter, the product had been applied to the inside of the home on 10/05/2009. The dog was allowed back into the treated area 2 hours following application. The dog was not seen licking the treated surfaces. Three hours after the dog was in the treated room, she developed vomiting and lethargy which was persistent at the time of the report. The reporter was advised that the product has a low level of toxicity and a wide margin of safety. Small ingestions of the product may result in minor, transient gastrointestinal signs such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Minor symptoms may be managed by providing plenty of water and electrolyte-containing drinks to prevent dehydration. A recommendation was made to have the dog evaluated by a veterinarian given the persistence of signs. It was also recommended that the veterinarian rule out other potential causes for the signs. On follow up, someone other than the initial reporter stated that the dog's signs had resolved. The dog was not seen by a veterinarian. No further information was obtained.
