1-19845383: A reporter (cat owner) called on 09/09/2009 to report the possible exposure of her cat to an herbicide containing the active ingredients 2,4-D, Mecoprop, and Dicamba. According to the reporter, the product had spilled onto the dirt floor of the reporter's shed a few months prior to the call. At the time, the reporter detected an odor but was not aware that the product had spilled, so she left the shed door open to ventilate. The reporter's cat had developed anorexia and lethargy at an unknown time and had been euthanized, and the cat's veterinarian found spots on the cat's liver. The reporter recently realized that the source of the odor in the shed was from the spilled product and she became concerned that the cat may have gone into the shed and walked through the spilled product. The reporter asked whether that exposure could result in spots on the liver. The reporter was advised that the described possible exposure would not be expected to result in the signs described. Chronic or prolonged over-exposure may result in liver effects, but not from the potential exposure described. Transient dermal or inhalation exposure would not be expected to result in significant signs. A recommendation was made to consider other possible causes for the spots on the liver and signs of illness. No further information was obtained.
