5/26/2009 8:32:00 AM Caller states that his mother was attending an auction on Saturday evening, May 23. Apparently, an organizer of the auction was spraying an outdoor fogger directly around individuals in an attempt to eradicate mosquitoes. The caller states that the spraying was being done next to a fan that blew the airborne spray directly into his mother's face resulting in an inhalation exposure. She immediately developed coughing and shortness of breath. A family member attempted to call (name) to get emergency information on the product and did not hear or understand the message indicating that for medical assistance, a different phone number needed to be called. The mother was immediately taken to a local ER where she was subsequently admitted to the hospital for what the doctors described as a severe asthma-like reaction. The mother has been receiving numerous treatments with continuous oxygen and intermittent nebulizers being some of the interventions that the caller could recount. The mother remains in the hospital today. The caller denies that his mother smokes or has any other pre-existing pulmonary disease. He was calling primarily to voice his complaint that SC Johnson does not have medical emergency assistance during weekends and does not have a phone# on the can for direct medical emergency assistance.
Majeure
The information contained in this report is based on self-reported statements provided to the registrant during telephone Interview(s). These self-reported descriptions of an incident have not been independently verified to be factually correct or complete descriptions of the incident. For that reason, information contained in this report does not and can not form the basis for a determination of whether the reported clinical effects are causally related to exposure to the product identified in the telephone interviews. Although the direct accidental inhalation of airborne pesticide spray containing these active ingredients may be expected to produce upper respiratory irritation, such symptoms are typically transient in nature and readily resolve with fresh air. A severe reactive airway response such as that occurring in this patient requiring an extended hospitalization is unexpected.
