(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
A call came in from a veterinarian, he indicated that he has a dog coming in that ingested some of this product. Not sure how the dog is doing, what time it happened, or the circumstances. The amount could have been a pinch. It was explained to the vet that Carbaryl is a carbamate insecticide well tolerated by dogs. When client arrives, get estimation of amount ingested (1 tsp vs tblsp, etc), and weight. A dose can then be calculated. Most likely, mild GI upset will be only expected clinical signs, although if significant amount ingested SLUDDE signs are possible. Cats are the most sensitive species with an LD50 of 150 mg/kg. A dog LD50 was not located. Anticholinesterase activity of carbaryl is reversible, so prognosis with appropriate treatment should be good. Later on that morning the vet called back with further information, the animal was suspected to have ingested at most 100g at 6:00 am. She also reports that tremors were noted first at 9:30 am and fine tremors continue. The dog is aggressive/agitated in the clinic. HR is WNL, no dypsnea, did urinate laying down in the exam room. The next morning a follow up call was made to close the case out and the vet had indicated clinical signs resolved this morning. Diazepam controlled the clinical signs and Methocarbamol was not necessary. Pet was discharged 5 pm Thursday, June 25. Patient is said to have has a full recovery.
