1-16399990: The reporter called on 7/15/08 to report the application of a topical flea and tick product containing the active ingredients Allethrin and N-Octyl Bicycloheptene Dicarboximide to his four 5 week old kittens. According to the reporter, he had bathed the kittens with the product on 7/11/08. One of the kittens had passed away on 7/13/08 (1st subform III). By 7/15, a second kitten had developed lethargy and had discharge (brown mucus) from its nose and mouth (2nd subform III). The reporter wondered what he should do. It was discussed that the product was not meant to be used on kittens under 12 weeks of age. A recommendation was made to bathe the kittens in hand dish washing soap to remove excess product, to seek immediate veterinary care for all symptomatic kittens, and to monitor all asymptomatic kittens. A follow-up call on 7/18 revealed the 2nd kitten had been bathed and taken to a veterinarian. Fluids had been given but the kitten had passed away. The other 2 kittens remained asymptomatic.
