5/2/2008 Caller reports that product has been applied to the teats of five nursing mares for the past month. One of the mare's foals died one week ago due to ruptured intestines. A necropsy is being performed, and has found only fecal matter in the peritoneum and no other significant findings at this point. A second foal is in critical condition with colic. The foal has had two surgeries to resect the intestines. 6/17/2008 Follow-up with the original reporter.. Caller reports that the second foal died due to perforated intestines. The DVMs did not suspect it had anything to do with the pesticide application, but were unclear of the exact cause.
Mort
The information contained in this report is based on self-reported statements provided to the registrant during telephone Interview(s). These self-reported descriptions of an incident have not been independently verified to be factually correct or complete descriptions of the incident. For that reason, information contained in this report does not and can not form the basis for a determination of whether the reported clinical effects are causally related to exposure to the product identified in the telephone interviews. Product was used in a manner inconsistent with labeling direction. Product is not intended for use directly to teats nor should it be used in a manner that would likely result in direction exposure by ingestion to foals. Even with the ingestion of this pesticide containing these concentrations of active ingredients, gross intestinal perforation is not expected, nor does past scientific data or post-marketing exposure experience involving these active ingredients used at these application concentrations suggest that intestinal perforation is a conceivable outcome.
