1-16111103: The reporter, a pest control officer, called on 5/6/08 to report a client had contacted him with the claim that her pregnant cat had died as a result of exposure to a product containing the active ingredient Permethrin. The product had been applied on 4/7/08 to the inside perimeter of a rented house, while the resident's cat had been outside. The resident had been told to keep the cat out of the house during spraying, as well as for a while afterward. The reporter was unsure if the product had dried by the time the cat had re-entered the dwelling. According to the owner, the cat had been allowed back in "a while" after the product had been sprayed. The owner had then consulted a veterinarian over the phone, as the cat had not acted normally upon re-entry. Per the veterinarian's advice, the owner had given the cat milk. After the cat had drunk the milk, she had fallen over and become non-responsive. The owner had then taken the cat to the veterinarian for evaluation, who determined the cat¿¿¿s digestive system ¿¿¿was failing¿¿? ¿¿¿ possibly from exposure to a toxin. The cat had subsequently passed away. The reporter inquired about the safety profile of the product, which was discussed. Assuming the product had been properly diluted, GI or dermal irritation may have been seen with an exposure. However, neurological symptoms would not be expected.
