Treatment / Traitement
(p.ex. description des symptômes tels que la fréquence et la gravité
History: Caller applied product for the first time to his 1 yo, 3 lb, DLH, female cat 2 days ago. The following afternoon, the cat "fell over" suddenly and was unable to walk. No other symptoms reported. Owner took the cat immediately to the vet hospital where a DVM bathed and "shaved" the hair off of the cat to "remove the product". No other known treatments. The cat reportedly died suddenly at the vet hospital yesterday. The cat's body remains at the vet hospital. Cat owner at first declines necropsy, however, after further discussion with him, he decides to proceed. Assessment: Empathized with caller over their loss. Discussed toxidrome of the product with caller; this product has a very wide margin of safety and low toxicity level when used according to the labeled directions. Given the History, it would be very unlikely for a cat to suffer from OP toxicity of a <2% concentrated product in the manner of exposure described and following routine, dermal application of the product. I am unsure what caused your cat's sudden death at this time, given the History and onset. Reiterated that Hartz products have a very wide margin of safety and low level of toxicity when used according to the labeled directions. Discussed the Hartz-sponsored necropsy with caller. He declined at first, but after conversation, decided it was the best way to figure out more definitively what happened with his cat. I will document information provided. Provided case #. Pass this # along to your DVM and have them CB with hospital fax # and/or to discuss toxicity and testing issues. Notified Lead Tox.
