(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On an unspecified date in 2014, a 10 year old, neutered, male, Unknown Breed feline, in unknown condition, with no known concomitant medical conditions, was administered 1 tube of Advantage II (cat-unspecified) (Imidacloprid-Pyriproxyfen) topically by the owner. On an unspecified date in 2016, the cat had 1 Seresto Cat (Flumethrin-Imidacloprid) collar placed around the neck by the owner. On an unspecified date in Oct-2016, post collar application, the cat died. No known medical intervention was sought and it was unknown if a necropsy was performed. Due to the sensitive nature of the communication, specific relevant event details were not obtained, nor will such be sought. The reason for the initial phone call was to discuss the use of the product and not to report the death of the patient. No further information is expected. Case is closed.
Death
Advantage Plus Spot-on pipette size unknown N - Unlikely Reported death is inconsistent with pharmaco-toxicological product profile and experience. Product has wide margin of safety. Oral LD50 in rat is 642 mg/kg BW. 24-fold overdosage tolerated by cats without showing any side effect. Involved cat is geriatric. Moreover, the reason for the initial phone call was to discuss the use of the product and not to report the death of the patient. Time to onset is exceptionally long. Even though it was unknown if a necropsy was performed, considering the known product safety profile sufficient information exists to conclude that the product did not cause the event and product involvement deemed to be unlikely. Seresto Collar Cat N - Unlikely Death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with product¿¿¿¿¿¿s pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious signs. Involved cat is geriatric. Moreover, the reason for the initial phone call was to discuss the use of the product and not to report the death of the patient. Even though, some information is missing (time to onset and necropsy result), considering the known product safety profile sufficient information exists to conclude that the product did not cause the event and product involvement deemed to be unlikely.
