(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1/6/2017 10:49:02 AM A veterinarian called to report a fatality which may have occurred secondary to rodenticide ingestion. The dog presented to the hospital on 12/16/16 with anemia and was very weak. Twitching was observed but the vet thinks this may be due to hypoxia rather than neurological impairment, The dogs hematocrit was 6 percent. The dog was treated with plasma transfusions, Vitamin K, and 200 mL of whole blood. The vet had limited access to diagnostic testing so coagulation tests were not performed. The dog seemed to improve with these treatments but then died overnight. A final diagnosis was not able to be made but the vet suspected either disseminated intravascular coagulopathy or anti-coagulant rodenticide poisoning. The dog owner has a bait box on his property that was placed by a pest control operator and contains bromadiolone bait. There is no evidence that the dog had access to the bait box or ingested the bait.
