(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On approximately 08-Sep-2016 the feline developed weight loss and anorexia. On approximately 05-Oct-2016 the feline was evaluated by a veterinarian. Minor bloodwork was performed to check the thyroid and blood sugar with unknown results. No other therapies were performed. On 25-Oct-2016 the feline died. No necropsy was performed. No further information is expected. This case is closed.
Death
Reported anorexia is unspecific and may have numerous other causes. Sign may occur initially after collar administration. Weight loss is not expected to occur with product use and as noticed one day after product application, it is unlikely related to the product as weight loss requires some time to develop. Later reported death is not expected following appropriate topical product application as inconsistent with products pharmacological profile. Oral exposure to the collar is not expected to cause serious signs either. An overdose of 5 collars around the neck was investigated in adult cats and dogs for an 8 months period and in 10 week old kittens and 7 week old puppies for a 6 months period without causing serious signs. Time to onset for initial sign is short, however for later reported death is long. Moreover, animal is in an extremely advanced stage of life and other unrelated causes are likely in such a geriatric animal. Considering the known product profile sufficient information exists to conclude that the product did not cause the serious event, however as information is limited, the case was considered to be unassessable.
