(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On October 14, 2016 the dog developed a behavior change (not acting herself, wasn't lethargic, but not doing what she normally does, like rolling around when she comes in from the rain). On October 20, 2016 the dog had a seizure (lasted approximately 2 minutes). On October 21, 2016 the dog had another seizure (lasted approximately 2 minutes). On October 25, 2016 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated imidacloprid is an insecticide that has a low toxicity to mammals. The APSS veterinarian also stated ingestion of this agent may cause mild gastrointestinal upset; dermal exposure may cause a hypersensitivity reaction (redness, pruritus, alopecia). The APSS veterinarian additionally stated we would not expect seizures from the ingredients in this medication; however, dermal hypersensitivity is possible. The APSS technician recommended taking the dog to the veterinarian (to be evaluated and have blood work obtained), and having the veterinarian call for information.
Moderate
The APSS veterinarian stated that the substance was considered to have a doubtful likelihood of causing the clinical situation. A follow up was not performed, because no significant signs were expected.
