(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
On September 6, 2016 the cat developed symptoms, so the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS veterinarian stated clinical signs may include agitation and mild gastrointestinal (GI) upset. The APSS assistant recommended monitoring the cat at home, bathing the cat (with liquid dish washing detergent (LDWD)), monitoring for ataxia (if still ataxic after the bath in a few hours, take to clinic), confining (keep away from open water, sharp objects, furniture, or stairs if ataxia is seen), calling back with questions, and taking the cat to the veterinarian (if the ataxia persists or worsens despite the bath).
Moderate
On September 7, 2016 the owner called the APSS back and stated she had bathed the cat and continued to monitor him for ataxia. The owner also stated the cat developed inappetence and adipsia earlier that morning and then later that morning the cat's ataxia had gotten worse, so she took the cat to the veterinarian. The APSS technician let the owner know she would update the record and recommended having the veterinarian call for information (to discuss the case) and calling back with questions.
