On May 2, 2016 the cat developed symptoms. The owner then bathed the cat (using cat shampoo) and the symptoms ended shortly after. On May 4, 2016 the owner contacted the Animal Product Safety Service (APSS). The APSS assistant stated s-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR) and if ingested there could be hypersalivation and nausea. The APSS assistant recommended no treatment necessary.
