In 2012, the following treatments were applied to the hives: amitraz Information on crops located near the beeyards: 8ha of wheat was adjacent to the beeyard, and was planted on May 15 2013. The area was previously planted with soybean; 50ha of soybean was 100mfrom the beeyard, and was planted on May 10 2013. Cruiser Max was used on the crop. The area was previously planted with corn. BK hives experienced mortality following planting of treated soybean on May 9th. Beans were planted in evening after 9pm. Follow up questionnaire (2013-08-07): All single brood chambers, but did not build as expected. Drop of population of adult bees. Strong colonies prior to seeding. Reduction of 30-40% after seeds sown, colony in poor condition. Brood: withdrawn from cells and dumped outside, spotty brood, reduction of adult bees and subsequent brood decline as a result. Supersedure - 7 colonies. Requeened 9 colonies, 4 hives didn't take, had to requeen again. No supplemental feeding, no disease, no pest. Colony condition good initially. There were a total of 11 colonies in the bee yard. There were 11 affected colonies. There were 501 - 1000 dead bees per colony observed outside of hive. Bees were actively foraging at the time of the incident. At time of visit bee yard bees not likely foraging bc of strong wind. Were inside hive All colonies exhibit dead bees in front of hive. Brood symptoms included overall decline inbrood production and no specific brood symptoms. Queen symptoms included unusual laying pattern.Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive had positive detects for clothianidin. Samples of live bees taken from unaffected hive, unaffected live bee sample, had no detected active ingredients.Samples of dandelion, vegetation sample (dandelions) collected from around hives had no detected active ingredients.Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive had positive detects for clothianidin, fuberidazole and thiamethoxam. Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive had positive detects for clothianidin, fuberidazole, thiabendazoleand thiamethoxam.The weather at the time of the incident was overcast and cloudy. Prior to the incident, the number of frames of bees was good, the frames of brood was good, and the frames of pollen and honey was also good. Additional food sources provided to the bees included sugar syrup (fall 2012).
