(eg. description of the frequency and severity of the symptoms
1-16085147: The reporter called on 4/30/08 to report he had applied topical flea and tick products (collars) containing the active ingredient Tetrachlorvinphos to his 17 cats several months ago (3/2/08). He had been using the collars for years, but subsequent to this most recent application, two of his cats had died and several others (8) had experienced respiratory issues (tachypnea). The reporter stated his 7 year female cat (1st subform III) had died on 4/24/08 from ¿¿¿fluid around the lungs¿¿¿. She initially had become depressed and tachypneic after application of the collar, and had been taken to a veterinarian for evaluation (unknown timeframe). The reporter than stated his 8 year old male cat had died at the beginning of April after having developed similar symptoms of depression and tachypnea. Eight other cats in the house had developed tachypnea as well (3rd subform III). According to the reporter, once he had started noticing the tachypnea he had removed the collars from all the cats (unknown timeframe). A recommendation was made to decontaminate the cats by bathing with mild hand dish soap, and to seek veterinary care if symptoms would continue. A follow-up call on 5/5/08 revealed one cat had developed some anorexia (4th subform III). It was reiterated that any cats experiencing persistent problems should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
